Our Homebirth Pt 3 - He’s here!

I move to sitting on my knees with my arms draped over the edge, holding onto my husbands hands with everything I have. Contractions are wild now, but I’m letting them work! I remember my body trembling through each one. They come and my body naturally starts pushing as they end. It was a wild feeling. I didn’t “push” a single time. Not once! Not a minute of forced or coached pushing. My body literally involuntarily is moving him down the birth canal.

I’m still shaking through contractions now and groaning loudly and deep. I remember thinking shit, are my neighbors going to hear this??

I feel an intense pressure but again, no pain, no ring of fire and my angel baby’s head is out! I wait for the next contraction to do the work. I’m in no rush. The next wave comes and with it, a hand, then shoulders and the rest of his body.

Our midwife guides him between my legs and toward my belly (again, I’m on my knees facing the edge of the pool) and I reach into the water and grab our sweet boy then sit back and cry a really big cry. Louie doesn’t though, he’s eyes wide open and so alert, taking everything in. He’s perfect and eventually lets out a big cry when he’s ready. Labor was a journey for me but I know he’s just been through it too!

5ish hours of true labor and I have my baby in my arms. I can’t believe it.

I stare and just take in this beautiful child of ours who we’ve waited so long to meet and wondered so much about.

We eventually move to our bed to deliver the placenta as it was stuck behind my public bone. We don’t cut the cord until it’s completely white. We enjoy our golden hour before getting his weight and height and all that fun stuff. It’s perfect. Ppl are feeding me snacks and forcing me to drink lots of liquids, I felt immensely supported and cared for.

Around 1am or so, everyone leaves and suddenly the house is quiet. Just our little family of 3 left. Learning each other and taking in our new normal ♥️
